Why Sam Altman put everything into two tiny companies

A note from our friends at The Oxford Club(ad)

Dear Reader,

Billionaire Sam Altman recently made an extraordinary admission.

“I basically just took all my liquid net worth and put it into these two companies.”

This was not a casual investment.

Altman, CEO of OpenAI – creator of ChatGPT – placed nearly everything he could readily access behind a new, emerging field…

A new fusion with AI and another branch of science…

One Elon Musk himself said is capable of “Jesus level miracles.”

See, Elon was not finished with Space X. He has been quietly building yet another company – in this field…

And like all other investments before it…

Tesla, OpenAI, SolarCities, and PayPal…

Elon enters a new space…

Then capital floods in and new investment opportunities appear around him.

Former Fox Business analyst Matt McCall calls this pattern the “Musk Stampede.”

Elon innovates…

Capital floods in…

And dozens of new opportunities are created.

So what is Elon building now?

And how could ordinary investors take advantage of the opportunity developing around it?

Matt recently sat down with former Fox anchor, Corrina Sullivan, to share his findings.

Moderna Is Up About 500% in 2026. Oct. 24 Could Double It or Erase the Rally.

In the history of biotech, few stocks have moved the way Moderna has in 2026. The company spent the first half of the year near multi-year lows, with COVID vaccine revenue shrinking and a pipeline that skeptics called expensive speculation. Then August changed everything.

Why This Stock Now

Moderna’s stock price catapulted from $62.96 to $174.38 in a single session on August 19, 2026. Moderna and Merck’s mRNA cancer therapy, intismeran autogene (also known as V940 or mRNA-4157), met its primary endpoint and a key secondary endpoint in the Phase 3 INTerpath-001 melanoma trial, a rare positive late-stage readout for an mRNA-based personalized cancer therapy. Since then, the stock has kept climbing. As of the October 1, 2026 close, Moderna traded at $192.57, which is roughly a 550% year-to-date gain.

The Business

Moderna built its platform around messenger RNA, the same technology behind its COVID vaccine. The difference with intismeran is that each dose is manufactured specifically for one patient using the genetic fingerprint of their tumor. The global Phase 3 study evaluated intismeran autogene in combination with Merck’s Keytruda versus Keytruda alone in patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma. The broader INTerpath program is also being evaluated across other tumor types and settings, including non-small cell lung cancer and bladder cancer, among others.

Why Wall Street Is Paying Attention

The August announcement confirmed the trial worked. What it did not provide was the underlying data: the hazard ratios, the survival curves, the magnitude and durability of the benefit. Moderna and Merck reported that the trial met its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival and a key secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival. Both companies described the improvements as statistically significant and clinically meaningful, yet they released no underlying numbers, so investors have priced Moderna stock on a conclusion rather than on a curve.

That gap closes on October 24. Moderna has said the Phase 3 INTerpath-001 melanoma results will be presented at ESMO Congress 2026 (Oct. 23-27 in Madrid) during a Presidential Symposium on Saturday, October 24. Getting that slot signals that ESMO’s review committee considered the data worth its most prominent stage.

What Could Go Wrong

Citi downgraded the stock on valuation in late September 2026. Citi said Moderna’s market capitalization is now similar to Regeneron despite materially lower expected revenue and earnings. The downgrade followed a 222% surge in MRNA shares since the mid-August INTerpath-001 topline results.

BioNTech has not had a comparable move this year, which reinforces that the market is betting on intismeran specifically, not broadly re-rating the mRNA platform. That concentration matters. If the hazard ratio revealed at ESMO is weaker than the market has assumed, there is no diversified pipeline argument to cushion the stock. Investors should watch for the magnitude and durability of the recurrence-free survival benefit when Moderna presents at ESMO, since that number is what Moderna stock already prices in.

The Bottom Line

Moderna’s 2026 run was built on a topline press release. October 24 replaces that topline with actual survival curves, hazard ratios, and a comparison arm that oncologists and statisticians will spend weeks analyzing. A convincing melanoma dataset would give the platform a reference point that extends to other Moderna programs, while a softer curve than the market expects can compress the multiple just as fast as expectations pushed it here. Few single-day events on the October calendar carry this kind of binary weight. Sizing the position accordingly is not timidity. It is the trade.
